Information for Prospective Members

REGISTRATION

The CBD swim team has about 75 swimmers and are always looking for new swimmers to join our team! All new and returning families must sign up for the swim team using the online registration form. In this form you will be able to register all your swimmers, handle registration fees, and sign up for volunteer shifts. All new swimmers will be required to try out for the team.

FEES

Fees for CBD are $80 for the first swimmer, $70 for additional swimmer(s), $40 for swimmers who are in high school (entering the 25-26 school year).

SWIMMER REQUIREMENTS

All applicants for the swim team must be “water safe,” this entails being able to swim a complete length of the pool (25 Yards) and must feel comfortable in the deep end of the pool. Knowledge of the basic competitive strokes (freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, and butterfly) is NOT required. Swimmers must be able to follow instructions, communicate with coaches, be safe & respectful of all other swimmers (in & out of the water).

NEW SWIMMER TRYOUTS

CBD will have several “tryout” days. We understand that it is sometimes difficult for kids who haven’t gotten in a swimming pool since the previous summer! All new swimmers are expected to attend a special tryout session from March 23rd - 27th or April 7th - 9th from 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm. The coaches will work closely with the new swimmers and evaluate their skills. If, in the coaches’ opinions, a swimmer does not meet the above criteria by the end of the tryout, he/she will not continue with the team this swim season.

If your swimmer is unable to make it across the pool, we would like you, as the parent, to consider having your swimmer grouped in our newly formed group called the Little Flippers! This group was created to teach your swimmer the basics of swimming, build their confidence and strength to swim across the pool just in time for competitions! Ages for this group can range from 5-10, if your swimmer is over this age range and we feel that your swimmer would benefit by being added to this group, we will let you know! If you have any more questions regarding the Little Flippers group, please contact Coach Sarah.

PRACTICES

Regular swim team practices will be held at the RAC POOL, Monday through Thursday. Practices generally begin the week after spring break from 5pm - 6pm (Group 1) and 6pm - 7pm (Group 2). Once kids are out of school, practices move to 4pm - 5:30pm (Group 1) and 5pm - 6pm (Group 2). In order to see improvement with swimming skills and in event times, swimmers are highly encouraged to attend every practice.

Swimmers will be required to bring their own swimsuit, towel, swim cap, goggles, & water bottle. CBD will also have goggles & caps available to purchase during tryouts, practices, and swim meets.

**Additionally, as a new addition to swim equipment for swimmers ages 9-18, parents are encouraged to purchase their swimmers with Fins/Flippers - coaches will be implementing fins/flippers into practice sets as a way build swimmer's leg strength and kick speed.

SWIM MEETS

Swim meets are held every week in June and one week in July, home meets will be ran on Tuesdays and Thursdays are set for away meets. We ask that families plan accordingly, these meets are the best time for your swimmer(s) to showcase their skills and break their personal times in their events!

We also have a qualifying meet at the beginning of July (Time Trials) and a Championship meet held mid July (CVRSL Finals). Home meets generally begin at 6:00pm and may run as late as 9:30pm. Home meets will be held at the RAC Pool Facility, and at various other Central Valley clubs for away meets. All families are expected to volunteer during every swim meet. See Parent Volunteer Information found in the "Parent Information" tab.

OTHER SWIM TEAM ACTIVITIES

We also plan several team and family fun events, including our Intersquad meet and a mandatory team Swim-A-Thon. We finish up our season at the end of July with League Championships and a team banquet. Click on the “Meets & Events” tab on the main menu to see more about these activities.

COACHING

Coaching is provided by volunteers that have been a part of our team in the past or have had other swimming experience. The coaches have two main goals. The first goal is to help each team member improve their level of proficiency with the basic competitive swim strokes. The second goal is to have fun while learning the importance of being part of a team.

If you know someone or are interested in becoming a coach, feel free to reach out to Head Coach, Haley Rodriguez for more information.
